I want to start this out by saying that I have nothing against Pit Bulls. If trained well and with the right purpose, they are great pets.
Last night, my wife and I were watching CSI. Dogfighting was a big part of the story line. It reminded me of how much I hate dogfighting. As a pet owner and a pet enthusiast, I cannot believe the stupidity and cruelty of those that breed and train dogs to fight.

Dogfighting is a sadistic and idiotic contest in which two dogs are placed in a pit to fight each other for the spectators’ entertainment. Often, the spectators gamble on the outcome of the fight. Fights average nearly an hour in length and often last more than two hours. Dogfights end when one of the dogs will not or cannot continue.
The dogs that fight sustain severe injuries that are sometimes fatal. Dogs used in these events often die of shock, blood loss, dehydration, exhaustion, or infection hours or even days after the fight.
What person in their right mind would participate in such an act? In the words of Oklahoma State University football coach Mike Gundy, it’s garbage… it makes me want to puke. That is all I have to say about that.

It’s a small step from being inhumane to animals to being inhumane to humans. Fortunately, a little education goes a long way. People generally modify their behavior when they realize the pain that they are causing. Until we all become enlightened, our silent furry friends need us to champion their plight.
I, as well, have a pit-bull who stands out as the most caring animal I’ve ever owned. Soon, a new dog breed will occur along for the media to blast, because they have performed rotties and dobies in previous years. Unfortunate that media sensationalism breeds much inaccurate info.
